Mobilane Green Screen – Pyracantha Darts Red – Pyracantha is a genus of large, thorny evergreen shrubs.  They are native to an area extending from Southwest Europe east to Southeast Asia. Typically, they have serrated leaf margins and numerous thorns. The plants reach up to 4.5 m (15 ft) tall. Leaves are small and oval. In contrast, fruit are either red, orange, or yellow.  In addition, the flowers are produced during late spring and early summer; the fruit develops in late summer and matures in late autumn. So, Pyracanthas are valuable ornamental plants, grown in gardens for their decorative flowers and fruit. Not only that but their dense thorny structure makes them particularly valued in situations where an impenetrable barrier is required. So, Pyracanthas have become a popular alternative to artificial fences and walls. Moreover, they are also good shrubs for a wildlife garden, providing dense cover for roosting and nesting birds, summer flowers for bees and an abundance of berries as a food source. The soil must be water permeable with good drainage, free of debris and not have impermeable clay layers. All of which will allow the plant roots to grow down deep into the ground. There should be no barriers (plastic sheets, concrete slabs for example) to prevent the establishment of a healthy root system. In cases where the soil is not rich in humus, please add  a good quality compost.   Watering, Pruning & Fertilising: Don’t forget to look after your new hedge though. We recommend the use of planting fertiliser depending when the screen is planted.  We also advise regular watering during the first year after planting. The best pruning months are April/May and September/October.   Brackets: There are two types of brackets available, a wall mount bracket for attaching to a flat surface and a post bracket which can be used with most types of fence posts. Screens of 220 cm height require 6 brackets per screen, Screens of 180 cm height require 4 brackets per screen, and screens of 100 cm height require 4 brackets per screen.   Mobilane Green Screen – Pyracantha Darts Red – Installation: Download our installation and maintenance guide here Leave about 3 cm between the posts and the screen. This will allow the plant stems to swell between the iron grid of the screen and the posts. The measurements between the posts must adhere to a centre-to-centre distance of 130 to 132 cm.
